German-American Student Exchange Lake Day at LSC

German-American student Lake day at LSC

A group of about 30 German exchange and their ELHS American counterpart kids and parent/adults hosted by the Siegle and Kovalchick families was held at the club last Friday, September 24th. We had spectacular weather.

Super special thanks to Michael and Clayton who took the kids out on Lightnings for sailboat rides (much more fun than it would have been with "host mom Ann" doing that!)

They also enjoyed kayaking on member, club and guest kayaks, and some of the LSC/American kids took out Bic and 420 sailboats as well as cornhole, swimming, snacks, and a gathering of parents and chaperones at the firepit.

The German/American exchange program is one that's been in existence since 1980, and pairs up East Lansing High School German students with Seybold Gymnasium (a high school) in Wurtsburg, Germany, a town in Bavaria, about 1.5 hours east of Frankfort, Germany. Siegle and Kovalchick children have done this - the Americans go in early July when the Germans are still in school and spend 2 weeks with the Germans and a week touring Germany. They return here in September to spend (almost) two weeks with us and another week touring New York, Niagra Falls and Chicago. The lake day was on a scheduled prof dev day at EL public schools so they had off Friday.
