Race Committee

The Race Committee officiates Wednesday and Sunday Series Racing at LSC. Race Committees set the marks of the race course and starting line, check in boats as they arrive in the starting area, signal the start of the race with flags and/or horns, call over-earlies, record the finish times for each participant, and consult with racers to abandon races for sake of weather. If you are new to Race Committee duty, it will be a learning experience as you assist more the more experienced with tasks. There are several roles to fill for every race, suitable for a wide range of skills sets and experience levels. The Race Committee is usually stationed on the Club pontoon boat, with safety and mark-setting powerboats assisting.

"Sailing a boat calls for quick action, a blending of feeling with the wind and water as well as with the very heart and soul of the boat itself. Sailing teaches alertness and courage, and gives in return a joyousness and peace that but few sports afford."

-George Matthew Adams
