What a joy to see so many friends and family at Lansing Sailing Club Memorial Day Picnic - enjoying tasty potluck and sizzling grilled meats, chatting and taking in the view of the lakefront, sailing, paddling, swimming and having a delightful time.
A competitive game of Ball Pit Boggle on the water, then a race up “the coast” though lulls and thermals helped wrap up the day.
Thank you to all the hardworking volunteers that made this possible - prepping, setting up, grilling, setting racecourse and tallying boggle scores, and cleaning up!!
We often measure the attendance by how many burgers, brats and dog are grilled - which was at least 173 meats - so at least 80-90 or more folks.

TACS Regatta today at Traverse Area Community Sailing brought two mixed teams of eight of our racers, from Bath, East Lansing, Okemos, Dewitt and Haslett, to tackle challenging variable winds. A postponement waiting for wind to fill in was readily met with games and chilling lakeside in this beautiful venue. About eight races were run during the afternoon, and our sailors gained some invaluable experience, and really got into the mix, working on finding the fastest side of the race course upwind. Good job racers!
Thank you racers, sailing families, coaches, and Traverse Area Community Sailing for a great day on the water!
High School Sailing Teams are still practicing on Lake Lansing and racing other schools in the Midwest through May. You and your 7-12th grader are welcome to drop in on practice Tuesday or Thursday night 5-7pm to see what it is all about.

Fleet - Lightning

Published On 5/22/2023
The morning dawned chilly, cloudy and breezy – and it never warmed up, calmed down or cleared up until 5pm. We moved this regatta to May 20 for better weather – but Mother Nature had other ideas! Eight Lightnings – 4 from Lansing, 4 Michigan District guests joined us for competitive, breezy and FAST sailing. Races took, on average, 15 minutes to 17 minutes each, and the next start was 30 seconds after the last finisher, giving crews the feeling of being at a sprint sailing event! No sooner did you get the spinnaker up, than it was time to take it down and go upwind again.

High School Sailing Team

Published On 6/8/2021
Our High School Sailing Teams (East Lansing, Haslett, Lansing Catholic, Lansing Eastern, Okemos, Williamston, together with the Lansing Sailing Club) hosted their first official MISSA regatta, on Lake Lansing. Gorgeous, but wild and windy day - NWS reported winds at 17 MPH, gusting to 25+, during the time boats were sailing. With temps only in the upper 50s it was a brisk day for sailing!
