• Points are awarded to boats finishing a race based upon the following table:

  The values in the table are derived from the following formula:

  X = 100 + 5 (N - 1) - (100 + 5N) (P - 1) / N

  Where:

  N = Number of boats starting the race
  P = Boat's finishing position in race
  X = Points awarded for that finish in that race

  DNS, DNF and DSQ are all awarded 0 points.
  
  
• A Lightning skipper must sail in at least 40% (N * 0.4, where N is the total number of races conducted) of all races conducted to qualify for a LSC season series award. If 40% of the total number of races conducted produces a real number result, the fractional portion of the result is discarded (e.g., 40% of 29 races = 0.4 * 29 = 11.6 = 11 races required to qualify).
  
  
• Each skipper's best races equal to the number of 40% of all series races sailed will be counted for season scoring purposes.

  Example:

  Thirty seven races are sailed during the season. Fourteen (N * 0.4 (40%), or 37 * 0.4, or 14.8 races, yielding 14 races), races are required to qualify for participation in the series. Skipper Smith sailed in 23 races, which qualifies him, and his best 14 races out of the 23 races he sailed in are used to compute his series final standing.
