Read important Registration System information at bottom of page before starting registration.

Only one child at a time can be registered, but they can be registered for multiple weeks. Take care a child is only registered for one Class per week.  Due to state regulations, an individual child cannot be enrolled in both morning AND afternoon classes in the same week.

Lansing Sailing Club has a range of sessions to introduce your child to the fun and adventurous world of sailing, and for those who have sailed before, continue the
adventure and learning. After you have paid, you may register another child by starting the process over again.

$250 per 1 week session.

(Students are of course free to repeat a class they have been in before.)

Intro to Sailing
is for youth who are new to sailing, or need to review the basics - rigging and basic boat-handling, and basic rules of the road, and safety.

Intermediate Sailing 1 is for youth who have taken a sailing class before, with us or elsewhere - building on the basics for more confident boat control and sailing skills.

Intermediate Sailing 2 challenges youth sailors with more sailing techniques, such as spinnaker, crew teamwork, decision making, and a taste of racing fun.

Sailing Science (STEM), Skills and Adventure explores the world of sailing with fun hands-on science, nautical skills, Great Lakes history, and the arts - for practical skills and understanding, as well as an appreciation for the environment and history of sailing. No pre-requisites.

Racing Clinic is a training for youth sailors in the fun and challenging sport of racing, on Club 420 Sailboats, the boats used by our Fall/Spring High School Racing Teams and the MSU Collegiate racing team. Best for youth who have taken a sailing class before, with us or elsewhere.

All these classes may be repeated by a student, and instructors may switch a student to a less or more challenging concurrent class if more suitable. Intermediate classes are best for youth who have a basic understanding of sailing and/or have taken our junior sailing classes before.

IMPORTANT >>> Registration System Quirks

This system collects basic info for you and the child before reaching the class registration page. The system calls the child being registered your "Guest".  Here is a short guide to navigating through the first few screens.

1) When you start, under "Who's Attending" choose "ME plus 1 guest". This lets the system take info for both you and child.
Then fill in your info, and click "Next" at the bottom of the page.

Minimum physical and language requirements to operate and move on a sailboat, and understand and respond to directions from instructors must be met by student. These classes have both on-shore and on-the-water components. Covid-19 program considerations make it necessary that students remain in scheduled activities, in the locations in which they occur. If a child cannot or refuses to participate in on the water activities, or remain in their group and location on shore, parents may be contacted to pickup child early.

Morning class runs from 9am-12pm, Monday-Friday. Drop-off time and check-in is from 8:45-9pm, and sign-out/pick-up from 12pm-12:15pm.

Afternoon class runs from 1-4pm, Monday-Friday. Drop-off time and check-in is from 12:45-1pm, and sign-out/pick-up from 4pm-4:15pm.

Your child may be enrolled in only one class per week, per State of Michigan regulations.

In regard to Covid-19 concerns, your bringing of your child to classes is an indication your child is healthy. If your child is ill, or recently exposed to infectious disease, please let us know they will be absent, and do not bring them to class.

We will have hand-sanitizing/washing available pre and post class, and before snacks.

It is expected children may crew on a boat with another child or coach, as part of the learning process. Parents may indicate if they are uncomfortable with their child crewing a 13-19ft sailboat with another child, we may be able to accommodate.
